Submit To A Special Issue
JBI special issues focus on high impact biomaterials themes and provide additional visibility for your work.
Choose The Right Special Issue
Special issues are curated collections that explore a defined theme such as smart biomaterials, regenerative scaffolds, or advanced manufacturing. Select the issue that best aligns with your manuscript scope and mention it in your cover letter.
If you are unsure which issue fits your work, contact the editorial office at [email protected] for guidance. We can confirm the best collection based on your study design and topic.
Special issues are promoted across the JBI network and highlight emerging priorities in biomaterials. Publishing in a themed collection can position your work alongside other leaders in the field and increase visibility among targeted audiences.
Why Publish In A Special Issue
Focused Visibility
Your article appears in a themed collection that attracts readers searching for that topic.
Community Impact
Special issues connect related studies, supporting collaboration and cross citation.
Editorial Focus
Guest editors help shape the collection, ensuring topical relevance and coherent scope.
Submission Checklist
Special issue submissions follow the same scientific standards as regular submissions. Use the checklist below to prepare a complete file set.
Cover Letter
State the special issue name and explain the manuscript relevance to the theme.
Complete Manuscript
Include all sections, references, and ethical statements in the main file.
Figures And Tables
Upload high resolution figures and clear tables with descriptive captions.
Data Availability
Provide repository links, accession numbers, and any access restrictions.
Ethics And Conflicts
Include IRB or animal approvals and conflict of interest disclosures.
Article Type
Identify whether the submission is research, review, or a methods paper.
Follow the full Instructions for Authors for formatting, references, and ethics statements. Clear data availability and material sourcing details help reviewers evaluate reproducibility and translational relevance. Include funding acknowledgments where applicable.
Review And Decision Process
Special issue manuscripts undergo the same peer review and editorial evaluation as standard JBI submissions. Guest editors may recommend reviewers, but final decisions remain with the handling editor to ensure consistent quality and ethics oversight.
Manuscripts may be redirected to a regular issue if they are strong but outside the special issue scope. Authors will be notified before any change in issue placement.
Special issues use a defined submission window. Please submit before the posted deadline to be considered for the themed collection.
If the collection reaches capacity, accepted papers may be scheduled in a regular issue with the author approval while retaining the same open access visibility.
APC And Licensing
Special issue articles are subject to the standard Article Processing Charge after acceptance. Review APC details and waiver options before submission.
