Copyright And Licensing Policy
JBI publishes under an open access model that protects author rights while enabling broad reuse of biomaterials research.
All articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
Author Rights
Authors retain copyright of their work. By publishing in JBI, authors grant the journal a license to publish, distribute, and promote the article under the CC BY 4.0 license. This ensures maximum visibility and long term access while protecting author attribution.
The journal does not require transfer of copyright ownership.
The CC BY 4.0 license allows others to copy, distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as proper attribution is provided.
What CC BY 4.0 Allows
The CC BY 4.0 license enables reuse across research, clinical, and educational contexts. Users may share the article in any medium, translate the work, or use figures and data in derivative outputs.
Share
Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format with appropriate credit.
Adapt
Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.
Maintain Attribution
Reuse is permitted as long as the original authors and source are clearly cited.
Attribution Requirements
Attribution should include the author names, article title, journal name, publication year, and DOI link. Users should also provide a link to the CC BY 4.0 license and indicate whether changes were made to the original work.
Attribution must not imply endorsement by the authors or the journal. Any modifications should be clearly labeled to protect the integrity of the original research record.
Commercial And Educational Use
CC BY 4.0 allows commercial and educational reuse without additional permission. This supports translation of biomaterials research into clinical applications, industrial development, and teaching resources. Users may incorporate figures, data, or methods into new research provided attribution is preserved.
If you reuse JBI content in new publications, presentations, or product documentation, cite the source article and include the DOI. Proper credit protects the authors, maintains traceability, and strengthens the reliability of the evidence base.
Third Party Content
If your manuscript includes third party images, tables, or datasets, you must obtain permission for reuse and provide appropriate credit lines. Content that is not covered by CC BY 4.0 must be clearly identified in the article.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that permissions are secured before publication. If permissions are restricted, the material may be removed or replaced at the editorial office request.
License Permanence
CC BY 4.0 is irrevocable as long as users follow the license terms. This guarantees long term reuse rights for the research community and ensures stable access for clinical and industrial translation.
License Link
The full license text is available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. Authors and users should refer to the official terms for complete guidance.
No Additional Restrictions
Users may not apply legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from exercising the rights granted under CC BY 4.0. This keeps biomaterials research open and reusable across the global community.
If you create adaptations or derivative works, clearly label changes and avoid suggesting endorsement by the original authors. Transparency preserves trust and keeps the research record clear.
Integrity Of The Scholarly Record
Any reuse of JBI content must preserve accurate attribution and avoid misrepresentation. Figures, tables, and datasets should not be modified in a way that changes the scientific meaning without explicit disclosure.
If corrections or updates are issued after publication, users should reference the most current version. Linking back to the journal record helps readers access the full context, including any corrections or updates.
Author Sharing And Archiving
Authors may share the published version on personal websites, institutional repositories, and academic networks with full citation and DOI links. Archiving is encouraged to improve discovery and access, provided that the published version and license are correctly cited.
To avoid confusion, archive only the final published PDF or clearly label preprint and accepted versions. Always link back to the journal record to direct readers to the authoritative version.
Authors may also reuse figures and excerpts in conference presentations, grant applications, and teaching materials, provided the original article is cited and the CC BY license is noted.
