Data Archiving & Permissions
Ensuring transparency and reproducibility in anatomical research.
Promoting Research Transparency
IJHA encourages authors to share supporting data and materials to enhance the value and verifiability of published anatomical research.
Transparency in anatomical research is essential for building trust in scientific literature. IJHA supports FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) for data management while respecting ethical considerations.
All empirical manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement (DAS). Example statements:
- "All data generated during this study are included in this published article and its supplementary files."
- "The datasets analyzed are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."
- "Data cannot be shared due to ethical restrictions regarding cadaveric specimens."
We recommend depositing research data in recognized repositories:
- Figshare: General purpose data repository with DOI assignment
- Dryad: Curated repository for research data
- Zenodo: CERN-backed open science repository
- Morphobank: For morphological and phylogenetic data
Anatomical research often involves sensitive materials:
Cadaveric Data
Data from cadaveric specimens must comply with body donation program protocols. Ensure proper anonymization of all identifying information.
Clinical Images
Radiological and clinical images require appropriate consent. Remove or obscure patient identifiers unless consent was obtained.
If your manuscript includes material previously published elsewhere:
- Obtain written permission from the original copyright holder
- Provide permission documentation during submission
- Include appropriate attribution in figure legends
