Overview

The nervous system is the body’s control center; it enables us to move, think, respond, and adjust to our environment. It is composed of specialized cells called neurons and other cells such as glia and ependymal cells that work together to help process and transmit information from the environment to the body. Anatomy and physiology of the nervous system are essential for scientists, medical professionals, and students studying biology, as well as the general public. This understanding can provide insight into how the body processes information, how it responds to stimuli, and how diseases, such as Alzheimer and dementia, can affect the neural network. Through studying the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, we can better recognize, understand, and treat common neurological disorders.
