Use Quick Submission FormArticle Types We Publish
The International Journal of Health Statistics welcomes diverse epidemiological research that advances population health understanding, disease surveillance methodologies, and evidence-based public health interventions.
Original Research Articles
Population-based cohort studies, case-control studies, cross-sectional surveys, and longitudinal analyses examining disease patterns, risk factors, and health outcomes across populations.
Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses
Comprehensive evidence syntheses following PRISMA guidelines, quantitative meta-analyses of epidemiological studies, and methodological reviews of surveillance systems.
Outbreak Investigation Reports
Rapid communications on disease outbreaks, cluster investigations, epidemic analyses, and emergency public health responses requiring timely dissemination.
Methodology & Statistical Papers
Novel statistical methods for epidemiological analysis, validation studies of surveillance tools, sampling strategies, and innovations in disease modeling techniques.
Public Health Policy Analyses
Evaluations of health interventions, policy impact assessments, health systems research, and analyses of social determinants affecting population health outcomes.
Short Communications
Preliminary findings, pilot studies, novel observations from ongoing surveillance, and brief reports on emerging health trends requiring rapid publication.
Reporting Guidelines for Epidemiological Research
We strongly encourage authors to follow established reporting standards: STROBE for observational studies, CONSORT for randomized trials, PRISMA for systematic reviews, and RECORD for studies using routinely collected health data. Adherence to these guidelines strengthens your manuscript and accelerates peer review.
Peer Review Timeline: What to Expect
Our transparent, efficient peer review process is designed to provide timely, constructive feedback from experts in epidemiology and biostatistics. We value your time and maintain strict editorial timelines.
Submission & Initial Screening
Your manuscript undergoes technical checks for completeness, formatting compliance, and scope alignment. We verify all required elements including ethics approvals, data availability statements, and conflict of interest declarations.
0-3 daysEditor Assignment & Desk Review
An Associate Editor with expertise in your research area evaluates scientific merit, methodological rigor, and contribution to epidemiological knowledge. Manuscripts not meeting our standards receive prompt desk rejection with constructive feedback.
3-7 daysPeer Review by Epidemiology Experts
Typically 2-3 independent reviewers with relevant expertise assess your study design, statistical analyses, interpretation of findings, and public health implications. Reviewers evaluate methodological soundness and contribution to the field.
14-21 daysEditorial Decision
Based on reviewer recommendations, the editor makes a decision: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject. You receive detailed reviewer comments and specific guidance for revisions if applicable.
21-28 days from submissionRevision & Re-review (if needed)
Submit your revised manuscript with a point-by-point response to reviewer comments. Minor revisions undergo editor review only; major revisions return to peer reviewers for assessment of changes.
14-21 days after resubmissionAcceptance & Production
Accepted manuscripts enter production for copyediting, typesetting, and final author proofing. Your article receives a DOI and is published online with immediate open access visibility.
10-14 days to publicationTotal Time to Publication: Approximately 60 Days
From initial submission to online publication, most manuscripts complete the process in about 60 days. Fast-track review is available for outbreak reports and time-sensitive public health findings, reducing this timeline to 30-35 days.
Pre-Submission Checklist
Ensure your manuscript is complete and ready for submission. Missing elements cause delays and may result in desk rejection.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
Structure Your Epidemiological Research
Original research articles should follow the standard IMRaD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) with these discipline-specific considerations:
Introduction: Clearly state the public health significance, research gap, and study objectives. Provide epidemiological context including disease burden, known risk factors, and rationale for your investigation.
Methods: Describe study design (cohort, case-control, cross-sectional, ecological), population and sampling strategy, data sources, variable definitions, statistical analyses, and ethical approvals. Include power calculations for sample size justification. Specify software used for analyses (R, Stata, SAS, SPSS).
Results: Present findings logically with appropriate tables and figures. Report effect estimates with 95% confidence intervals, p-values, and measures of association (odds ratios, relative risks, hazard ratios). Include sensitivity analyses and subgroup findings where relevant.
Discussion: Interpret findings in context of existing epidemiological evidence, discuss biological plausibility, address limitations (selection bias, information bias, confounding), and highlight public health implications and policy recommendations.
Statistical Reporting Standards
We expect rigorous statistical methodology appropriate for epidemiological research. Report all statistical tests, adjustment for confounders, handling of missing data, and assessment of assumptions. For complex analyses (multilevel models, survival analyses, causal inference methods), provide sufficient detail for reproducibility.
Data Sharing Requirements
IJHS encourages data transparency. Authors should include a data availability statement indicating whether individual-level data can be shared, with appropriate privacy protections. For publicly funded research, we strongly encourage depositing de-identified datasets in recognized repositories (Dryad, Figshare, OSF).
Article Processing Charges (APCs)
IJHS operates on an open access model to ensure your research reaches the widest possible audience without reader barriers. Our transparent pricing supports rigorous peer review, professional copyediting, and permanent archiving.
Standard APC: Competitive rates for epidemiological research with no hidden fees. Contact our editorial office for current pricing and institutional discounts.
Waiver Policy: We offer full or partial APC waivers for authors from low- and middle-income countries (as classified by the World Bank), early-career researchers, and unfunded studies. Financial constraints should never prevent publication of important epidemiological findings.
Institutional Agreements: Many universities and research institutions have open access agreements covering APCs. Check with your library before submission.
