Biography:

  • Stan Block, MD, FAAP, is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. 
  • He has been a full-time pediatrician in private practice in rural Bardstown, Kentucky, for over 30 years. 
  • His group, Kentucky Pediatric/Adult Research, is one of the most prolific pediatric/adult ambulatory research groups in the United States, participating in more than 500 clinical trials investigating antibiotics, ADHD, vaccines, migraine headaches, and more. 
  • Dr. Block earned his medical degree at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his postgraduate work in pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
  • Dr. Block is a reviewer, writer, and editorial board member for a number of scientific journals, including the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, Pediatric Annals, and Infectious Diseases in Children. 
  • He writes an informative monthly feature column-- “Healthy Baby‚ for the prestigious Pediatric Annals, which is distributed to nearly every general pediatrician in the U.S. 
  • He coauthored the book Diagnosis and Management of Acute Otitis Media, which was published in its third edition. 
  • He is first author or co-author of over 130 peer reviewed medical articles, including landmark papers on quadrivalent HPV vaccine for adolescents (2006, 2010), human-bovine pentavalent rotavirus vaccine for infants (2007), 13valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for infants (2010), quadrivalent live nasal flu vaccine for adults (2011) and children (2012).  
  • Dr. Block is a highly sought-after nationally recognized speaker on such topics as infectious diseases, vaccines, general pediatrics, and ADHD. 
  • He has been the recipient of the following national awards: 
  • The 1998 Researcher of the Year in Pediatric Private Practice by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the 2001 Charles Bluestone Award by the Pediatric Otolaryngology Society, the 2002 and the 2003 Burtis Breese Awards by the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, and the 2004 University of Kentucky Distinguished Alumnus Award. 
  • He has served on the following American Academy of Pediatrics Executive committees: Committee on Pediatric Research (1998-2004), Section of Infectious Diseases (2000-2007), and planning group for PREP: Infectious Disease CME courses 2003, 2005, 2007. 
  • For the last 5 years, he has been an annual advisor, course director, and speaker for one of the largest general pediatric conferences in the U.S., the annual “Infectious Diseases in Children Conference held in NYC.
