Overview
Plant extracts are concentrated preparations derived from various parts of plants—including leaves, roots, tubers, seeds, pods, and aerial parts—that contain bioactive compounds with potential health and agricultural applications. Research published in this journal examines the antioxidant properties of plant extracts from diverse species across multiple geographic regions, including medicinal plants from Suriname, Bangladesh, and Mexico, as well as food crops and traditional remedies. Studies investigate how extraction conditions, particularly solvent pH, influence the phytochemical composition and antioxidant capacity of extracts from species such as Glycyrrhiza glabra, Asparagus racemosus, and Murraya koenigii. The journal also features research on practical applications, including the use of pigeon pea pod coat extracts to stabilize cooking oils and the antimicrobial properties of various plant preparations against fungal pathogens. Additional work explores plant extracts as biopesticides for agricultural pest management, examining their efficacy against aphids, fall armyworm, and other crop-damaging insects. This body of research contributes to understanding the relationship between total phenolic content and Antioxidant Activity, the redox potential of phytochemicals, and the broader potential of plant-derived compounds as natural alternatives in food preservation, medicine, and sustainable agriculture.
