Overview
Zoology is the branch of biology devoted to the study of animals, encompassing their structure, physiology, development, behavior, classification, distribution, and evolutionary relationships. It examines life across the enormous diversity of the animal kingdom, from microscopic invertebrates to large vertebrates, and seeks to understand how animals are built, how they function, how they interact with one another and with their environments, and how they have evolved over time. Zoology draws on many specialized areas, including anatomy, physiology, ecology, genetics, behavior, and taxonomy, and it underpins applied fields such as conservation, wildlife management, veterinary science, and biomedical research that relies on animal models. By advancing knowledge of animal biology, zoologists contribute to protecting biodiversity, understanding ecosystems, and addressing the effects of human activity on the natural world. Zoological Research publishes peer-reviewed work across the study of animals, including perspectives on the advancements, problems, and future prospects of experimental zoology, historical examination of Charles Darwin's ideas and expeditions, and experimental studies of physiological effects in animal models such as the anti-inflammatory effects of natural compounds in mice. This page gathers open-access research relevant to zoology and the scientific study of animal life.
