Overview

Animal nutrition encompasses the study of the dietary requirements of animals, the nutritional content of their diets, and the impacts of their diets on their health and wellbeing. Animal nutritionists focus on ensuring animals receive the right macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats and water) and micronutrients (minerals, vitamins and trace elements) from their diet in the correct proportion to support their bodily functions. This is of vital importance for the lifetime growth and development of animals, as well as for efficient production. Improved animal nutrition practices can also benefit the environment, with greater efficiency at all stages of the food production life cycle reducing emissions and environmental footprints.
