Overview

Miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before the fetus is able to survive independently, generally before the twentieth week of gestation. It is a common outcome of early pregnancy and can result from chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo, maternal health conditions, anatomical or hormonal factors, infection, or, often, causes that cannot be identified. Beyond its physical effects, miscarriage carries significant emotional and psychological consequences, and recurrent loss raises additional clinical questions about underlying causes. The articles gathered here relate to pregnancy loss, its determinants, and the surrounding reproductive and emotional context. Recurrent and chromosomal causes feature in a case of inherited balanced chromosomal translocation in recurrent pregnancy loss, illustrating a genetic contributor to repeated miscarriage. The psychosocial dimension is examined through review of women's concerns following miscarriage as expressed across social media platforms and through work on postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Infection during pregnancy is addressed in study of cytokine levels in pregnant women with toxoplasmosis. Assisted reproduction appears in work on ovarian stimulation strategies, prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and the hormonal signaling that supports uterine receptivity. Together these contributions reflect the central concerns surrounding miscarriage: understanding its genetic, infectious, and hormonal causes, addressing recurrent loss, and recognizing the emotional and supportive needs of affected women.
