Overview

Aging is associated with physical and mental health changes that can affect women differently than men. Mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, are more common in women age 65 and over. Other issues such as posttraumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and Alzheimer’s Disease can also affect women during this age. Mental health problems can lead to decreased quality of life, social isolation, and physical health problems. Research suggests that regular physical activity, a healthy diet, staying socially active, and managing stress levels through relaxation techniques can help women maintain good mental health as they age. Proper mental health screenings and treatments are important for women of all ages to ensure they are able to enjoy life and make the most of their experiences.
