Overview
Renewable energy is energy obtained from natural sources that replenish themselves on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, flowing water, geothermal heat, and biomass. Unlike finite fossil fuels, these resources are continually renewed, which makes them central to long-term strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and increasing energy security. Renewable systems span a wide range of technologies, including solar photovoltaic and solar thermal collectors, wind turbines, hydropower, biogas digesters, and hydrogen produced by electrolysis, each suited to different climates, scales, and applications. Research in this area addresses both the engineering of conversion devices and the broader systems that integrate them. The journal publishes work touching on several of these aspects, including the evaluation of DC-DC boost converters for interfacing solar PV panels, the characterization of nanofluids for photovoltaic/thermal collectors, solar water heating used as a pre-heating stage, hydrogen production by alkaline electrolysis, biogas generation from cattle dung and food waste, and energy efficiency in commercial buildings. Related contributions examine algae for biotechnological and energy uses, alternative power systems for homes, and the connection between energy choices and climate goals. Together these studies reflect the field's emphasis on improving efficiency, lowering cost, and enabling the transition away from carbon-intensive energy.
