Overview
Sleep quality refers to how well an individual sleeps, encompassing factors such as sleep duration, continuity, depth, and the restorative value of sleep, as well as satisfaction with the sleep experience. Research published in Sleep And Sleep Disorder Research addresses multiple dimensions of this topic, examining both determinants and interventions. Published studies have explored the relationship between lifestyle factors and sleep quality, including the effects of physical activity across age groups, the impact of ultra-processed food consumption on sleep disturbances, and connections between meal habits, sleep habits, and circadian typology in school-aged children. The journal has also featured investigations into behavioral patterns such as bedtime procrastination and its association with loneliness among young adults. On the intervention side, research has examined novel therapeutic approaches including intravascular laser irradiation of blood, peripheral somatosensory stimulation for insomnia patients, pulsed magnetic therapy for sleep-related disorders, and comprehensive music therapy as part of multidisciplinary quality improvement efforts. Additional work has addressed measurement methodologies for objectively assessing sleep quality and the relationship between sleep disorders and comorbid conditions such as type 2 diabetes. This body of research underscores the multifactorial nature of sleep quality and its significance for physical health, mental well-being, and daily functioning.
