Overview

Women's health addresses the physical, mental, reproductive, and social dimensions of health that are specific to or differentially affect women across the life course, including reproductive and maternal health, gynaecological conditions, menopause, and the gendered determinants of disease. It encompasses sexual and reproductive health, antenatal and obstetric care, family planning, screening, and the influence of social factors such as gender-based violence, discrimination, and access to services on health outcomes. A public-health perspective emphasizes equity, the social determinants of women's health, and the integration of services. Public Health International publishes peer-reviewed research relevant to women's health, including studies of maternal and child healthcare integration, intermittent preventive treatment for malaria in pregnancy, determinants of caesarean section, overweight and obesity prevention among women, self-medication in pregnancy, sexual and reproductive health knowledge, the use of mobile communication for antenatal care, endometriosis and quality of life, menopausal symptoms affecting productivity, and the role of violence and discrimination in women's mental and physical health. This work spans reproductive, maternal, mental, and social aspects of women's health across diverse settings, reflecting the field's emphasis on the distinct health needs of women, the impact of social and structural determinants, and interventions to improve maternal and reproductive outcomes.
