Overview
Public health and global health, together with epidemiology, form the field concerned with protecting and improving the health of whole populations rather than treating individuals one at a time. Public health works through organised, society-wide efforts in disease prevention, health promotion, environmental and occupational safety, and health policy, while epidemiology provides the methods for studying how diseases and health determinants are distributed and what causes them. Global health extends these aims across national borders, addressing inequities in health between and within countries and tackling challenges such as infectious disease, non-communicable disease, and access to care in low- and middle-income settings. The journal Public Health International publishes peer-reviewed research spanning these areas. Relevant work in this collection includes a roadmap for developing a population-based colorectal cancer screening programme, a review of the biological effects of radiofrequency radiation, a survey of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding cardiovascular disease in an urban African population, and a study of healthcare workers' knowledge and practices for hepatitis B prevention. This page gathers open-access scholarship relevant to public health, epidemiology, and global health, supporting evidence-based approaches to improving population wellbeing worldwide.
