Overview
Non-clinical medicine communication in health care encompasses the exchange of health information, guidance, and education between providers and patients or communities outside of direct clinical treatment settings, including preventive care messaging, health promotion, and patient education initiatives. Research published in Public Health International on this topic addresses diverse communication challenges across multiple contexts, including ethical frameworks for health communication, the role of mobile telephone technology in facilitating antenatal care utilization in rural Uganda, and the use of tactile contact to enhance compliance with health promotion messages during routine examinations. Studies examine self-medication practices among pregnant women in Ghana, revealing communication gaps in pharmaceutical guidance, and explore healthcare provider perspectives on nutritional counseling for people living with HIV in Rwanda. Additional work investigates the integration of traditional maternal health practices with national health systems in Guinea, data quality perceptions in public health facilities, and the development of population-based screening programs requiring effective community outreach. This research underscores that effective non-clinical communication is essential for preventive health behaviors, appropriate medication use, and successful public health program implementation, particularly in resource-limited settings where clear health messaging can significantly influence health outcomes and healthcare system effectiveness.
