Overview
Health policy and planning refers to the systematic development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies and frameworks designed to improve health systems, service delivery, and population health outcomes. Research published in Public Health International on this topic examines diverse dimensions of health system strengthening across multiple countries and contexts. Studies have evaluated quality improvement strategies in private healthcare facilities using structured assessment frameworks, explored the integration of traditional healthcare practices with national health systems for maternal and child health, and investigated barriers and facilitators faced by community health workers implementing maternal and child health programs. The journal has published work on reproductive health knowledge and service utilization among rural adolescents, development of population-based cancer screening programs, and predictive models for tobacco control mass media programming in resource-limited settings. Additional research has assessed innovative approaches to suicide prevention and treatment, as well as the application of cultural humility principles in international health collaborations. This body of work addresses critical questions about how health policies are designed, adapted, and operationalized in diverse settings, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, contributing evidence to inform more effective and contextually appropriate health system planning and intervention strategies.
