Overview
Concerns related to homosexuality, within a public health framework, refer to the health and social issues that affect people who identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual, including disparities in access to care, mental health, exposure to stigma and discrimination, and specific epidemiological risks. Public health approaches these concerns by examining how social attitudes, healthcare provider knowledge, and structural factors shape outcomes, and by working toward equitable, nonjudgmental services and effective prevention and health promotion for sexual minority populations. Research in Public Health International contributes to this area. One study examines the attitudes of nursing students toward LGBTIQ individuals and the factors associated with those attitudes, addressing how the perspectives of future healthcare providers can influence the quality and inclusiveness of care that sexual minority people receive. Such work is relevant to reducing stigma and improving health equity. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to the health concerns of sexual minority populations, supporting researchers, clinicians, and public health practitioners concerned with equity, attitudes, and care for these communities.
