Overview
Biostatistics and Health Services encompasses the application of statistical methods to analyze health data and evaluate the delivery, accessibility, and quality of healthcare systems. Research published in Public Health International on this topic examines critical dimensions of health service utilization and implementation across diverse populations and settings. Studies investigate factors influencing maternal and child health service access, including reproductive health knowledge among rural adolescents in Rwanda, mobile telephone communication effects on antenatal care utilization in Uganda, and barriers faced by community health workers implementing maternal and child healthcare programs. The journal has published work evaluating quality improvement strategies in private healthcare facilities using structured assessment frameworks, examining health data quality in public facilities, and conducting community health needs assessments through cluster-randomized trials in urban settings. Additional research addresses healthcare access among specific populations, including migrants in Italy and mental health disparities among LGBTQ+ youth, as well as provider attitudes toward reproductive health services and the integration of traditional healthcare practices with national health systems. This body of work contributes to understanding how statistical analysis and health services research can inform evidence-based interventions to improve healthcare delivery, reduce disparities, and strengthen health systems in both resource-limited and developed settings.
