Overview
Behavioral and social aspects of health examine how individual actions, interpersonal relationships, community structures, and cultural contexts influence health outcomes and healthcare delivery. Research published in Public Health International on this topic addresses diverse dimensions of health behavior and social determinants across multiple populations and settings. Studies have investigated self-medication practices among pregnant women in Ghana, adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions in slum communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and smoking cessation self-efficacy among adults in Fiji. The journal has published work examining factors contributing to domestic violence in HIV-discordant couples in Rwanda and the prevalence and determinants of diarrhea among children under five in Ethiopia. Additional research explores organizational and systemic issues, including emotional management skills for physician leaders, health practitioner burnout and its safety implications, and structural alignment with values in public utility healthcare models. One study assessed an innovative contextual-conceptual therapy approach for suicide prevention and treatment. This body of work underscores that understanding behavioral patterns and social contexts is essential for developing effective public health interventions, improving healthcare delivery, and addressing health inequities across diverse global populations.
