Overview
Ayush and Public Health refers to the integration of traditional and complementary medicine systems—including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy—with conventional public health approaches to improve population health outcomes. While the term "Ayush" originates from India's traditional medicine framework, the broader concept encompasses how health systems worldwide incorporate diverse healing practices and community-centered interventions into public health infrastructure. Research published in Public Health International on related themes examines community health needs assessment methodologies in urban settings, data quality challenges within public health facilities, and the structural alignment of health service delivery models with population values. The journal has also featured work on developing population-based screening programs and tobacco control strategies that reflect comprehensive public health planning. These studies collectively address how health systems can be designed and evaluated to meet community needs through evidence-based assessment, quality improvement, and strategic program development. Understanding the intersection of traditional health practices and modern public health systems matters because effective population health interventions must be culturally responsive, data-driven, and structurally sound to achieve equitable health outcomes across diverse communities.
