Overview

Proteomics is a branch of biotechnology focused on the study of proteins. It is becoming increasingly important for the early detection of cancer due to the fact that proteins can act as biomarkers, providing information about the metabolism of cells in the body. Proteomic analysis can be used to identify and quantify different proteins in the blood and other bodily fluids, and can be used to detect cancer at its earliest stages and to monitor the progression of the disease. Proteomic-based methods can also be used to analyse the response to treatment and to develop more accurate ways to identify individuals with an increased risk of developing cancer. As such, proteomics is an essential tool for the early diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancer.
