Overview
Global health is the interdisciplinary field concerned with improving health and achieving health equity for populations worldwide, addressing the transnational determinants, distribution and control of disease across high-, middle- and low-income settings. It integrates epidemiology, preventive medicine, health systems, social and environmental science, and policy, recognising that drivers of ill health, including infectious-disease transmission, non-communicable disease, environmental change, behavioural risk factors and socioeconomic disparities, cross national boundaries and demand coordinated responses. Preventive Medicine And Care are central, tackling the root causes of illness through immunisation, screening, health promotion, tobacco and substance control, and the strengthening of services in resource-limited contexts. Research grounded here spans thyroid-cancer incidence in a global-health frame, psychosocial determinants of substance use among adolescents, tobacco control and obesity management within cultural contexts, the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases, the impact of climate change on public health, mental-health promotion through global data, and the burden of disease among older and vulnerable populations. Core concerns include health equity, the social and commercial determinants of health, intervention effectiveness across diverse settings, and the interface between environment and population health. The journal publishes peer-reviewed studies on global and population health, including infectious and non-communicable disease, preventive interventions, environmental health and the cross-cutting determinants that shape health outcomes internationally.
