Overview
Breast cancer is a malignant tumour that develops from the cells of the breast, most often in the milk-producing ducts or lobules, and is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women worldwide. In the context of Preventive Medicine And Care, the emphasis falls on reducing incidence and mortality through early detection, risk reduction, and timely intervention. Preventive approaches include population and opportunistic screening such as mammography and clinical breast examination, awareness of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, and lifestyle measures relating to diet and physical activity. Early identification through regular screening improves the chances of successful treatment and survival. Within this field the journal publishes peer-reviewed research on the uptake of breast screening among health-institution staff, on the identification and analysis of risk factors associated with breast cancer, and on survival among patients in dedicated cancer centres. Further studies address the psychological dimensions of the disease, including mental health, cognitive-analytic therapy, and psycho-oncological care across cultural groups, alongside laboratory and clinical work on anticancer agents, triple-negative breast cancer prognosis and grading, metastasis biology, and adjuvant or metabolic treatment strategies. Collectively these reflect a preventive-medicine perspective that spans screening, risk assessment, supportive care, and translational research.
