Overview

Plant fungal pathogens are fungi that cause diseases in plants. They are responsible for a wide range of plant diseases and can cause significant economic losses in agricultural and forestry sectors. Plant fungal pathogens may be soilborne, seedborne or airborne, and affect the health and growth of a plant by parasitizing it, reducing its nutrient availability, or releasing toxins, among other mechanisms. Identifying and managing plant fungal pathogens is an important part of crop and forest protection. Control measures such as proper fertilization, irrigation, weed management, and pest control can reduce the spread of these fungal diseases and help prevent costly losses.
