Overview

Cancer is a broad group of diseases in which cells acquire the capacity for uncontrolled growth, invasion of surrounding tissue, and metastasis to distant organs, driven by the progressive accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations. Tumours are classified by tissue of origin, histological grade, and anatomical stage, which together determine prognosis and guide treatment with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted agents, and immunotherapy. Because many cancers present at an advanced stage or recur, symptom control, psychosocial support, and palliative and end-of-life care form an integral part of cancer management alongside disease-directed treatment, with the goals of relieving suffering and preserving quality of life. Research in this area examines palliative care for cancer patients and their relatives in community-based psychosocial support centres, chemotherapy following whole-brain radiotherapy as a prognostic factor in metastatic breast cancer, and complementary and alternative treatments for cancer prevention and care. Further studies address a theory of the central nervous system's adaptive contribution to incurable chronic disease, cervical and colorectal cancer screening across diverse populations, breast-cancer survival in a tertiary centre, trends in thyroid cancer, therapeutic resistance during cancer relapse, dietary and lifestyle factors in colorectal cancer, and GR-RNF43 regulation in colorectal cancer. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on cancer care, including supportive, palliative, and end-of-life management.
