Overview

Allograft and allotransplantation refer to the transfer of organs, tissues, or cells from one individual to another of the same species, a procedure that forms the foundation of modern Organ Transplantation medicine. Research published in this journal addresses critical challenges that arise after transplantation, particularly in kidney and heart recipients. Studies have examined the genetic factors underlying acute renal rejection, exploring how single nucleotide polymorphism profiles might guide personalized immunosuppressive therapy to improve outcomes. The journal has also investigated intra-operative hemodynamic parameters during living kidney transplantation and their relationship to delayed graft function, a complication that can affect early post-transplant recovery. Diagnostic approaches receive attention through comparative research evaluating Doppler ultrasonography against biopsy for detecting post-transplant complications and assessing kidney function. Additionally, the journal has documented unusual post-transplant complications, including atypical constrictive pericarditis following heart transplantation. These investigations reflect the ongoing need to optimize immunosuppression strategies, refine surgical techniques, improve non-invasive monitoring methods, and recognize rare complications in transplant recipients. Understanding these aspects of allotransplantation remains essential for enhancing graft survival and patient outcomes across different solid organ transplant populations.
