Overview

Ocular surgery is the branch of ophthalmology concerned with operative interventions to treat eye disease and restore or preserve vision, including cataract extraction, glaucoma surgery, corneal and retinal procedures, and the surgical management of trauma and inflammation. Techniques range from femtosecond-laser-assisted cataract surgery and astigmatic incisions to vitreoretinal repair, and outcomes depend on accurate diagnosis, surgical precision, and control of intraocular pressure and the inflammatory response. The research collected here reflects this scope through experimental work on transiently raised intraocular pressure equivalent to surgical conditions and its effect on retinal function and ganglion cells, comparison of superior scleral and temporal corneal incisions for correcting pre-existing astigmatism, immunomodulatory therapy in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, femtosecond laser in cataract surgery, management of orbitocranial and orbital injury, and retinal vascular and chiasmal conditions. Further studies address vision screening, vitamin A deficiency, and access to ophthalmic services. Together they span anterior-segment, vitreoretinal, and orbital surgery alongside the perioperative control of pressure and inflammation across case reports and clinical and experimental studies. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research in Ophthalmic Science, including surgical techniques and outcomes for the treatment of eye disease.
