Overview
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder marked by persistently elevated blood glucose that results from insulin resistance, in which the body's cells respond poorly to insulin, often combined with inadequate insulin production. Because glucose is not efficiently taken up for energy, it accumulates in the bloodstream, and over time uncontrolled levels can damage blood vessels and nerves and lead to complications including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, neuropathy, and eye disorders. Type 2 diabetes is strongly linked to overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, diet, and genetic predisposition, and it is typically managed through lifestyle modification, glucose monitoring, and medication. In the context of Obesity Management, type 2 diabetes is studied in close relation to body weight, body composition, and metabolic risk. The journal's articles include work on emerging gene-therapy approaches such as CRISPR, vitamin D deficiency in patients with type 2 diabetes, and high-protein supplementation affecting fat mass in obese adolescents with and without diabetes. Additional studies examine plant-derived agents and natural sweeteners for blood-sugar control, coronary artery calcification, obstructive sleep apnea risk, gene polymorphisms linking obesity and diabetes, family-centered medication management, and the influence of specific nutrients, reflecting the interplay of obesity, genetics, comorbidities, and diet in type 2 diabetes.
