Cholinesterase inhibitors are a class of drugs that are used to treat various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and myasthenia gravis. These drugs work by blocking an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) in the brain. Alzheimer's disease is a severe neurological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a chronic, progressive disease that causes cognitive impairment, memory loss, and behavioral changes. In Alzheimer's disease, there is a significant reduction in the levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which leads to a decline in cognitive function.
