Overview

Neurological disorders comprise diseases and conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, and the broad category captures the many presentations that fall outside the most common diagnostic groups. These include rare syndromes, atypical infectious and post-infectious conditions, paroxysmal and metabolic neurological disturbances, vascular and structural lesions, and the neurological complications of systemic disease, each producing deficits that reflect the function of the affected structures. They may arise from genetic, infectious, inflammatory, vascular, toxic, metabolic, or traumatic causes, and their recognition often depends on careful clinical characterization supported by neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and laboratory testing. Because such conditions are frequently uncommon or heterogeneous, the literature includes detailed case reports and clinical studies that document presentation, diagnosis, and management. Themes reflected in the associated literature include reversible posterior encephalopathy syndrome, post-COVID acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, hypomagnesemia-induced cerebellar nystagmus, gait abnormalities in Parkinson's disease, meningeal syndrome revealing tetanus, vascular malformations treated by embolization, and functional connectivity in dementia. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders, including the less common and atypical conditions affecting the nervous system.
