Overview

Neurology is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system, encompassing the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. It addresses conditions such as stroke and cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, dementias, infections, headache, and neuromuscular disease, drawing on clinical examination together with neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and laboratory investigation to localize and characterize disease. The field integrates knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuropathology with evolving therapeutic and rehabilitative approaches, and it has a substantial history of methodological development in diagnosis and in the design of therapeutic clinical research. Contemporary neurology spans acute care, chronic disease management, and translational investigation, including complementary and adjunctive interventions. Research in this area examines acute ischemic stroke evaluation and protocols, lacunar infarction and its predictors, multiple sclerosis severity and prognostic factors, the history and methodology of blinding in neurological therapeutic research, music and music therapy in neurological care, and central nervous system pathology arising in the context of systemic disease. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research across clinical, diagnostic, and translational neurology and the management of nervous system disorders.
