Overview

Neurological disorders are diseases of the nervous system, comprising the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and neuromuscular junctions, that disturb cognition, movement, sensation, consciousness, or autonomic function. They range from common conditions such as migraine and epilepsy to neurodegenerative, demyelinating, neurodevelopmental, and traumatic disorders, and may arise from genetic, infectious, vascular, immune-mediated, metabolic, or environmental causes. Their diagnosis and management combine clinical assessment with neuroimaging, electrophysiology, genetic testing, and increasingly computational analysis of brain networks, while therapy spans pharmacological, surgical, rehabilitative, and assistive approaches. Research in this area examines the methodology of therapeutic trials in neurological disorders, knowledge and attitudes toward epilepsy and its genetic polymorphisms, and surgical outcomes such as those for extradural hematoma in pediatric neurosurgery. Other work addresses neurodevelopmental conditions, including the physiopathology of autism spectrum disorder and assistive technologies for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; sleep-related disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy; inherited metabolic disease such as Tay-Sachs disease; post-infectious encephalomyelitis; and dynamic network analysis of functional connectivity in dementia. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research spanning the mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of neurological disorders.
