Overview

Degenerative nerve diseases refer to a group of neurological disorders characterized by the progressive damage and degeneration of nerve cells or neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). These diseases affect various functions of the body that are controlled by the affected nerve cells, such as movement, sensation, and cognition. Some examples of degenerative nerve diseases include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), and peripheral neuropathy. These diseases may occur due to genetic mutations, aging, environmental factors, or a combination of these factors. Neurological Research and Therapy aim to understand the underlying mechanisms of degenerative nerve diseases and develop effective treatment strategies. This includes developing medications that can slow down or stop the progression of the disease, as well as therapies that can improve the patient's quality of life.
