Overview
Hydronephrosis is a medical condition characterized by swelling of the kidneys caused by an accumulation of urine. The cause of this condition may be due to a blockage in the urinary tract, or a malfunctioning of the urinary tract or kidney. Symptoms of hydronephrosis can include fever, pain in the side, nausea and vomiting. Treatment may include antibiotics, catheterization, and occasionally surgery. Hydronephrosis is a serious condition and can cause permanent damage to the kidneys if left untreated. Early detection and prompt treatment are essential to prevent long-term damage. Early detection can be done through physical examinations and imaging tests like sonography or CT scans.
