Overview

Assessment in clinical and health research is the systematic evaluation of a patient's status, a population's needs, or a clinical parameter using structured tools, measurements, and standardised methods to inform diagnosis, management, and decision-making. It encompasses physiological evaluation such as volume and hydration status, functional and nutritional measures, risk stratification and mortality scoring, psychological evaluation, and community-level needs assessment, each requiring valid and reliable instruments suited to the question and setting.
