Overview
Information systems are organised combinations of software, hardware, data, people, and procedures that collect, store, process, and present information to support operations and decision-making. In healthcare and medical informatics, information systems underpin the management of patient records, the monitoring of services, the analysis of health data, and the coordination of care, making them central to evidence-based decision-making and the efficient running of health systems. Within the journal's scope on medical informatics and decision-making, research has examined how information systems are applied in health settings, including a pilot trial using geographic information system technology to strengthen the health system in the Upper East Region of Ghana, a study of users' perceptions and the factors affecting data quality at a public health facility in Rwanda, and the development of a collaborative blood-management information system in Cameroon. Related work using social network analysis of integrated medical services further illustrates how data systems support the organisation and analysis of care. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to information systems in healthcare, supporting informaticians, health managers, and students interested in health information technology, data quality, and information-driven decision-making.
