Overview
Compression fractures are fractures of the vertebral body caused by axial loading or compression and are the most common type of vertebral fractures. Such fractures often occur in patients with osteoporosis or other conditions that weaken bones, such as cancer. They can cause pain and disability and limit mobility, so prompt treatment is essential. Treatment can include spinal bracing, physical therapy, use of pain medications, and in some cases, surgical intervention. Compression fractures can have long-term consequences if left untreated, so it is important to seek medical attention right away.
