Overview

Community and school violence is a social issue that includes physical and psychological violence between students, teachers, and other members of the school and community environment. It can often have negative consequences such as increased levels of fear, lowered morale, and worsened academic performance. Schools and communities can work together to reduce the occurrence of these harmful acts. Policies and procedures that promote communication and understanding between peers, including positive behavior interventions and conflict resolution strategies, can go a long way to reduce the risk of violence in schools and communities. Additionally, providing a safe and supportive environment with increased access to mental health services can be key in preventing violence. With solutions that address both the causes and effects of violence, the long-term safety and wellbeing of both students and community members can be improved.
