Overview
Acute stress disorder (ASD) is a mental health disorder characterized by intense anxiety, dissociation, and re-experiencing of a traumatic event for at least three days but less than a month following the event. The symptoms of ASD can have a significant impact on an individual’s mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. ASD is a serious condition and can lead to long-term problems, such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Treatment for ASD typically involves a combination of psychological interventions and medications. Proper diagnosis and treatment of ASD are important for helping individuals cope with the aftermath of a traumatic event.
