02 · Before you submit

Four things to confirm

• The subject is in scope

  The manuscript's subject is a sexually transmitted pathogen or the clinical, laboratory, epidemiological or preventive response to one. The aims and scope page states each domain with a worked example and the boundary. If you are not certain, send the title and abstract to [email protected] first.

• The manuscript is prepared

  The right article type and word limit, the required abstract, five to eight keywords, Vancouver references, figures at 300 dpi or better, and the reporting checklist for the design. The submission checklist lists every item.

• The declarations are in place

  An ethics statement documenting approval or an applicable exemption or waiver, consent statements where required, trial registration where applicable, competing interests, funding, author contributions, and the data-availability statement that every empirical research manuscript must include. The editorial policies page states each requirement in full.

• The charge is understood

  There is no submission fee and no reader charge. An article processing charge falls due only after acceptance and is set by article type, from USD 350 to USD 2,100. The charges page holds the full terms, including the withdrawal policy.

Three routes, one editorial office

• Primary route

  The editorial office

  Where neither route is workable, write to the editorial office and it will submit on your behalf. This is also the route for a pre-submission inquiry, a question about scope, or a Special Issue proposal.

04 · What to send

The submission package

• Manuscript file, with tables after the references
• Figure files, separately, at 300 dpi or better
• Title page with authors, affiliations and ORCID iDs
• Completed reporting checklist for the study design
• Supplementary files, clearly named
• Cover letter to the editorial office
• A reviewer-anonymized manuscript, if you are requesting double-blind review
• Permissions for any reused material

05 · What happens next

After you submit

Screening

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Peer review

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Decision

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, and are independent of any fee, service, membership or role.

Publication

An accepted article is published open access under CC BY 4.0 with a permanent Crossref DOI, added to the issue that is open, and deposited to Portico for preservation.
