Article Processing Charges
A charge applies once a manuscript has been accepted, and only then. It pays for the work that turns an accepted manuscript into a permanent open-access article.
The charge has no bearing on the decision that preceded it.

Charges are set by article type. The schedule below is the current published schedule.

Charges are invoiced after acceptance. Institutions and funders may pay on an author’s behalf; sharing billing contacts and grant identifiers early keeps invoicing straightforward. Receipts carry the journal name, manuscript title and DOI reference.

Editorial independence
What the charge does not reach
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial or reviewer roles.
The charge is raised after a manuscript has already been accepted, so it plays no part in the assessment. Membership, institutional payment and funder payment work the same way: they change who settles an invoice, not how a manuscript is judged.

Requesting a partial waiver
Partial waivers are considered individually. A request should reach the editorial office before acceptance, with the supporting information the office asks for.
Membership carries a discount on the charge; the terms are set out on the Membership page.

Withdrawal
If a manuscript is withdrawn
Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal’s APC.
Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
