Overview
Fisheries management is the process of ensuring sustainable use of fish and aquatic resources for economic, environmental, and social benefits. It seeks to conserve fish populations as well as maintain or enhance the production of fisheries products. Management strategies can include regulations, such as setting catch limits, stocking certain fish species, and establishing closed areas to fishing; habitat management, such as establishing wetlands; and monitoring, such as collecting catch and abundance data. Fisheries management is important for preserving balanced and healthy fish populations and providing access to the food and recreational benefits they provide.
