Overview
Global health is an interdisciplinary field of research, policy, and practice directed at improving health and achieving health equity for populations worldwide, with particular attention to transnational determinants and disparities that cross national borders. It integrates epidemiology, medicine, health-systems science, environmental science, ethics, and the social sciences to address communicable and noncommunicable disease, pandemic preparedness and response, and the strengthening of health systems, especially in resource-constrained settings. Core concerns include the control of infectious threats and their geopolitical dimensions, the rising burden of noncommunicable disease and risk factors such as tobacco and substance use, and the environmental and climate-related drivers of ill health. The discipline also examines quality improvement in service delivery, vaccine uptake and confidence, mental health, and the bioethical and equity questions raised by interventions and resource allocation. Comparative analysis of health systems in developing countries informs strategies for universal access and resilience. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research across these areas, including studies of pandemic response and vaccine uptake, tobacco-control roadmaps, climate change and public health, healthcare quality improvement, substance use, and the structure and performance of health systems in diverse national contexts.
