Overview

Cancer treatment comprises the modalities used to cure, control, or palliate malignant disease, selected and sequenced according to tumour type, stage, molecular subtype, and patient factors. The principal approaches are surgical resection, radiotherapy, and systemic therapies including cytotoxic chemotherapy, molecularly targeted agents, immunotherapy, and hormone (endocrine) therapy, increasingly delivered as multidisciplinary, individualized regimens. Surgery and radiotherapy address localized disease, while systemic agents treat micrometastatic and disseminated disease; targeted and immune therapies exploit specific oncogenic drivers or the antitumour immune response. Treatment planning depends on accurate molecular diagnosis and histological subtyping, which inform prognosis and therapeutic selection, for example in differentiated thyroid carcinoma and breast cancer. Emerging drug-delivery strategies, including pH-sensitive and tumour-targeted nanomedicine, aim to concentrate agents at the tumour while sparing healthy tissue, with applications in gynaecological cancers. Supportive and psycho-oncology care, including management of post-surgical pain and psychological sequelae such as post-traumatic stress, is integral to comprehensive treatment, alongside the evidence appraisal of complementary and alternative interventions. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research across these areas, including long-term thyroid and breast cancer outcomes, in vitro pharmacology, nanomedicine delivery, and psycho-oncological management in oncology populations.
