Overview

Electronic health records (EHRs) and personalized medicine (PM) are digital tools that use data to improve individual healthcare and population health outcomes. EHRs provide an organized, comprehensive medical record that tracks an individual’s health history, including physical and laboratory test results, diagnosis and treatment records, medications, and more. PM uses an individual’s genetic and other health data to develop personalized strategies for disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This customization of healthcare creates more effective and efficient patient care. EHRs and PM have the potential to improve access to quality care, enhance patient safety, and reduce overall healthcare costs. As technology continues to evolve, EHRs and PM are becoming increasingly important in the medical field and will become even more prevalent in the near future.
