Biography
Charly Gaul is affiliated with the Headache Center Frankfurt, Germany, where he serves in a leadership capacity focused on migraine and headache disorders. He completed his medical studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and Karl-Ruprecht University of Heidelberg, followed by specialist training at the university clinics of Erlangen and Halle, and held senior physician positions at university hospitals in Halle and Essen before leading the West German Headache Center in Essen. His research concentrates on migraine, chronic headache syndromes, multimodal therapy approaches, cluster headache, pediatric headache, and facial pain, with his most-cited work being a 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis on aspirin, paracetamol, and caffeine for acute migraine treatment (31 citations). He completed his habilitation in 2012 on therapy concepts for chronic headaches and has served as Secretary General of the German Migraine and Headache Society since 2016, alongside editorial roles and active membership in numerous professional societies including the International Headache Society and German Pain Society.
