Overview
Consumption and eating habits refer to the patterns of what, how much, when, and why people eat and drink, shaped by individual preferences, culture, environment, socioeconomic conditions, and health knowledge. These habits strongly influence overall health, with diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins associated with lower risk of chronic disease, while patterns high in energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods can contribute to obesity and metabolic conditions. Understanding eating behavior, including how habits form, change, and respond to interventions, is central to nutrition science and to efforts aimed at improving diet quality across populations. Research published by the journal examines eating patterns and the factors that shape them. Work includes a study on culture and the Mediterranean diet, analysis of food intake patterns among older patients achieving successful weight loss and maintenance, and research on fruit and vegetable consumption, including the impact of combining nutrition education with active choice among schoolchildren and barriers to healthy eating perceived by low-income parents. Additional studies have explored dietary patterns such as vegetarianism and disordered eating attitudes. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to consumption and eating habits and their relationship to nutrition and health.
