Biography
Verena Scheper is a Tierarzt at Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany, where her research focuses on cochlear implant technology, inner ear drug delivery systems, and strategies for hearing preservation and neural protection in the deaf cochlea. Her work encompasses the development of novel electrode coatings, hydrogel-based continuous drug delivery reservoirs, and neurotrophic treatments aimed at improving spiral ganglion neuron survival and reducing fibrous tissue growth following cochlear implantation. With over 34 indexed publications, her most-cited work, "The Neural Bases of Tinnitus: Lessons from Deafness and Cochlear Implants" (2020), has received 96 citations and addresses the neural mechanisms underlying tinnitus in relation to auditory deprivation and cochlear implant intervention. Her research integrates in vitro and in vivo models to advance translational approaches for treating hearing loss and middle ear ventilation disorders.
