Overview
Tissue architecture refers to the three-dimensional structural organization of cells, extracellular matrix, and supporting elements within biological tissues, which determines both normal physiological function and pathological responses. Research published in the International Journal of Human Anatomy examines tissue architecture across multiple organ systems and disease contexts, including structural changes induced by environmental toxins and protective interventions. Studies have investigated hepatic and renal tissue organization following exposure to nanoparticles and chemical toxicants, as well as protective effects of antioxidant compounds like quercetin and flavonoids derived from plant sources on cardiac and organ tissue integrity. The journal has also published work on architectural transitions at the dermo-epidermal junction in viral-induced neoplasms, documenting epithelial-mesenchymal transition and stem cell phenotype acquisition that alter normal tissue boundaries. Additional research addresses lipomatous tissue organization in extremity masses and the development of complex tissue models for disease research. Understanding tissue architecture is essential for recognizing how normal structural organization maintains organ function, how disruption of this organization contributes to disease progression, and how therapeutic interventions may preserve or restore healthy tissue structure across diverse pathological conditions.
